what to look for when looking at old engines in the scrap/junkyards? 200

so if i go out to the junk yard, how do i know if the intercooler or whatever is good or the turbo
i saw one on the weekend from a 242 turbo
how much would a used engine in a junk yard cost(and its components)(canadian currency)?
what expensive parts should i look for to put in my 240..or to get if one of mine breaks.
