Should I Usa a 2 Year Old New Timing Belt? 700 1989

Hey,
Basically, my dad has a timing belt for my 1989 740 gl from Car Quest that is around 2 years old. Would it be okay for me to use it on my car? Or should I just buy a new one. I wasn't sure if the rubber compound deteriorated on these.
