Fellow brickboarders:
When this brick was given to me by my sis-in-law, it was in a no-start condition. Fuel delivery and ignition spark checked OK.I replaced the original 503 ECU with a 544 and it started and ran. No problem at all except for cold start idle being a little rough. Then I found out (thanks to this board) that the 544 is not interchangeable with the 503 or 510. So, went and got a known good 510 and swapped it with the 544. 10 minute job! This is what happened next: car started and immediately died. Tried to start it several times. Same thing. Start then dies. So, to the pick-a-part I went. Picked up an #002 AMM. Another 10 minute job to replace the AMM. Voila!! Car started right up! My question is: What is with the 544 ECU that made the car start and run with a bad AMM that is not with the 503 or 510? Thanks to you all for the info on this board. Car runs fine now, except, I don't have OD. But, that's a totally different issue and OD guru pretty much held my hand and guide me through the troubleshooting process. OD's gonna get a actuating pistons/seals job. Just a matter of time now.
Thanks again all!
