Sorry... I posted before about my 245 getting 32 MPG highway, and didn't get to check it for a few days. By the time I responded to requests for more info, the post had died. So... maybe I can resurrect it.
sorry to be so vague, some clarifications....
1989 245 wagon with 202,000 miles, automatic transmission, sunoco 93 octane, valvoline high mileage stuff that they put in last change...
I had a new timing belt two weeks ago, new air filter, ran two bottles of redline over my last 500 mile trip home in March and immediately had the oil changed. I change the oil every 2500-3000, and do my best to keep up with preventative maintenance. I bought this car used and slightly abused at 163k, and it keeps getting better. I even try to keep the engine compartment clean. Haven't burned a drop of oil in months.
I have standard (14"?) tires, keep them around 36 PSI. The odometer has always worked, never any problems with the main or the trip.
I keep the car at college, drive it at least 150 miles a week, sometimes more. I usually get 28 or so MPG highway.
This particular trip was all highway, 500 miles from PA to NH.... 310 miles on 9.5 gallons gas (us) comes out to... 32.5! The car was loaded with an upright bass, two amps, clothes, records, books, me, etc.
If this is still strange, let me know, I know that my odometer readings were pretty much on the money, my dad was following me in his '96 camry and we were only off by a few miles at the end of the trip.
