Well, remember my earlier post? I picked up a 1989 740t for $500 and it runs reasonably well. However, as I began to tear down the engine compartment to replace damaged items from the crash, I noticed that the turbo is leaking a bit of oil. I read the FAQ, and asked a few friends who told me that a turbo thats leaking is near its end. It seems to have a bit more life in it however. There is no play in the impeller, it is very firm and rotates freely, but I've noticed some traces of oil in its casing. THere also seems to be some oil flowing on the way to the intercooler. I'm going to try and bolt it back together, stick it on a dyno and run it a few times to see if it smokes. Its got 189k miles on it btw.
