Dead on road 940 UPDATE, The girlz are ok. The car is running again. 900

The Wifemobile.........

Ok, this is going to be a painful post. Not because of the reality of what happened, but because of some of the comments I can hear coming my way.....

I almost just let it die, until Sargent pops up here last night telling me to spill the beans, or else.

Snicker away FOOLS. I've seen more than a few of you posting with this same problem, it could get you too. Ringlee? You awake out there?

Ok, I have been chasing this GD fuel guage issue for a long time. It started out as intermittent, responding to a good whack on the dashboard. After multiple removals of the cluster form the dash, I have eventually replaced the gauge itself, re-crimped the connectors, and soldered every trace on the flex PCB feeding the gauge.

Here's the funny thing... it always fixed the problem.... for a while... I never thought that my re-trace handiwork was merely amplifying an already dying signal.

The only thing my wife could count on for sure was that the little amber light would come on when the tank was near empty. Well, when the degradation of the resisitive signal coil rotted down to the section that triggers the warning light, guess what happened? No more warning light.

She ran it out of gas........... OKAY!!!???

But after a year or so of trusting only the little amber light, who am I to cast stones? Although we DID have a little talk about the potential benefit of using the trip-odometer.

My friend from the Volvo dealer went over to my place at lunch, since I was stuck at work. He called me up.... "Hey Tom! I pressed the service valve on the back of the rail and a rush of AIR came out! What do YOU recommend?"

Smart Ass.

So she prolly did some pump damage too. No doubt she did the wifely thing and sat out there cranking the hell out of it... probably yelling at it too.

So now I need to get a new sending unit and a pre-pump too. Might as well. I see it in my future anyway.

Now you know.
