I'm a first time Volvo owner. A couple of months ago I bought a used 1991 740 turbo. I was driving this car and without warning it died. I attempted to restart but there was no battery power to engage the starter. The car was towed to a garage, the alternator checks out ok and new battery is installed. Problem sovled I thought.

About a week later the same problem, car dies suddenly( battery warning light does not come on). Just before it died the window wipers were moving slower than normal. Back to the garage, they test the new battery & alternator. All checks out ok. Approximatly 1 week later, the car dies once again. (This time I noticed that the fuel gauge started to drop just before the car died). Back to the garage where the alternator is viewed as the problem and it is taken out of the vehicle (brushes are replaced). Yes, you guessed it..... 2 weeks later the car dies again without warning, no battery power to restart.

This is a frustrating situtation....any ideas or suggestions? Is there an electrical short somewhere? What should I be checking?
