Is a flying pully going to cause serious injury? 200 1982

My '82 242 with 214,000 has not has power steering since the great AC failure of 174,000 miles and yesterday i was determined to take care of the problem. I know i coul dhave ordered the bypass kit from iPD but whats the fun in that? After replacing the main hose which was squirting fluid 10 feet in the air just before i lost power steering altogether, i decided that for now spacing the pulley out with longer bolts and about 12 washers on each of 4 bolts holding the pully on would do the job temporarily.. unfourtunately it is not at all centered and also makes me picture a pulley flying through the firewall and impaling me on the highway. I dont want that to happen.. I'm still feeling cheap though, and dont want to order iPD's spacer... i have checked all of the local pick your own yards and all the volvos have A/C... i was thinking mayeb using my longer bolts and doubling-up the power steering pulleys might do the job.. Anyone ever try this sort of unsafe fix to such a simple problem? Any advice?

Thanks
