O/D sticking

Sometimes when I disengage the o/d (M46) it stays on for a few seconds, even if I put it neutral or downshift. It will disengage rather rough when it does that. Could it be the fluid, I'm changing the fluid tomorrow anyway, and can you use Redline MTL in the o/d? if the fluid change doesn't correct it what else should I look at?
