Newbie Question regarding fuel guage on 240dl 200 1987

Greetings, chaps!

I have an '87 240 DL Wagon. (Newly Aquired...) I have two main questions... First, the fuel guage is INOP. It doesn't move at all, and I was wondering where I should start troubleshooting this problem. Second, what are the odds that cleaning the injectors will add substantially to the performance? It has almost 300,000mi, and seems well maintained, but occasionally hesitates when cold, and doesn't seem to have the amount of 'perk' my '85 740gle had. (granted, the 740 only had 87k)
