Did Volvo make a non-power-steering rack for 240? 200 1984

My rack is starting to make some noise; no leaks after 300k+ miles, but some disconcerting creaks and clunks. I'm going to replace a bunch of the steering stuff, and the rack will probably be the big item. I hate power steering, and would like to replace it with a straight-manual rack. Anyone out there ever do this? Was a non-power rack available in Europe? All the U.S. cars I've seen have the power unit.
