Alternator not charging 200

The alternator on my kids 86 244 is not charging. Oddly enough, the didiot light won't work either, even during the light test when you initially turn the key thru "run". I've done a bulb check, and that is not the problem with the idiot light.

Before I pull the alternator for an öff the car test, could it be a problem with the commections to the electronic speedometer which I have had out recently for an odometer gear replacement. That's where I'm looking first.

Any help would be apprecated. Thanks
