Hello all,
My '88 240 has developed a situation lately where is idles irregularly after start up. It starts up and idles normally, then (without A/C on) the idle goes up by itself, becomes rough and emits rich, black smoke from exhaust. All cylinders are firing, just running rich. If you just drive off, it clears up and runs perfectly as it warms up. I could live with this, but the other day it quit running during one of these episodes and wouldn't restart for about 20 minutes. I just had a specialist check it out. He suspected the air mass meter and made some adjustments to it. He then said he thought everything was fine. When I picked it up after he was gone it did the rough idle again, but didn't stall. My wife drives the car and I'm concerned that it might stall again.
Any help greatly appreciated.
