Hello all,
After troubleshooting my 1980 244 DL I've come to the conclusion that the wiring is not at fault. So what was? The fuel pump relay, I opened it up, it had the nasty solder connections, the partially melted red wire, burned area around plug # 30. So my question, is this the normal fail for these things?
Or is my fuel pump drawing too much current and causing this melt down? The red wire is discolored at the connection end, and you can see there was some serious heat, also before resoldering, the relay was getting warm quick, not so bad now, so I guess my repair to it was good. I tried tracing the circuits through the wiring diagram in the Haynes but its not very good. So my next question: If the alternator were going bad would it cause the dash lights to glow dimly while the key is out? I think I have 2 unrelated troubles and I'm trying to track them down.
Thanks
