16V 1990 740 GL REPAIR HELP 700 1990

I've got a real nice 740 with the 16V engine. There's a rattle in it and the local Volvo dealers didn't want to work on it and two local garages said, no thanks. I'm just now hearing the 16V is not a good engine.

Can anyone recommend a place to get this engine REBUILT or REPLACED with a non 16V engine in the Minneapolis St. Paul Metro area? I just love this car and I want to keep it running.
