got part but wonder if i should clean before installing? 700 1991

so i got the AMM->Turbo hose today and when i open it up i find all this shiny little rock/crystal stuff inside the pipe... what is it??? it whipes off to the touch. so i don't know if this stuff was ment to be in there or if i should wash the part out with water before i install it. seeing that it is an offical volvo part you'd think it should just go on without any prep needed.
