Swapping out Auto tranny for a manuel

Has anyone swapped out a auto tranny for a manuel. Is it a difficult conversion? I've got a 91 740 (B230F) in terrific shape, which could last me a long time, but the auto tranny is driving me crazzy! If i could find a wrecked car to canibalise tranny, linkage, pedals etc would it be worth it?

Any input would be appriciated,
