Spark Plug wire orientation 200 1981

Hello:
I am in the process of replacing the spark plugs and wires on an '81 245 that I picked up 25,000 mi ago. It is my first time replacing them on a Volvo, and I encountered considerable tightness where the wires attached to the distributor cap. Despite repeated and inspired yanking on the boots, I couldn't free the wires from the cap. So I decided that the "smart" thing to do would be to unclip the cap from the distributor to get more leverage on the wire ends. Well stupid me did not note the proper orientation of the distributor cap, and I pulled off the wires in what I thought was the right order. Problem is, I may have (and probably did) twist the cap when I removed it. So, upon replacing the cap and mounting the wires, the engine now misfires. My question is: what is the proper orientation of the wires on the distributor cap? Does it have a lot to do with the calibration of the distributor? The sources I have consulted so far have all only said to be sure to mount the new wires in the same order as the old wires were mounted, but did not note a set "schematic" of the wire attachments to the distributor cap. Any help for this newbie would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Matt
