The AC on her 240 has not worked for a couple of years. It had residual R12 pressure of about 30psi and if I jumped the switch to run compressor I had vacume and some pressure. So I figured it just needed freon, I vacumed out the small remaining amount, pulled a vacume on the system and added 48 Oz of R12 (ouch) but no joy. High pressure side goes to only 110 pasi and low side drops way down to -20 psi. Not sure but I think this means expansion valve stuck or clogged. Would the AC cool heads out there agree?
Also what is the purpose of the pressure switch on the receiver dryer? It seems to be always open even with the system charged and sitting at 80 psi or so. What pressure does it open or close at? I always assumed it was there to shut off compressor only if pressure rose very very high.
