Alternator Woes 700 1990

Hey all, i am having some issues with the electrical system of my brick, it is a 1987 760Ti, but with a 94 block from a 940. The problem is that the battery keeps draining, and I have to get it charged all the time. (I know that this is awful for the battery...) i am taking the alternator to Kragen for them to bench test. My question is this, is it possible to get replacement regulators for the stock bosch alternator, or am I going to need a new one entirely? Would I be better off doing the 'hot-rod regulator' trick from the turbobricks webpage, which involves bypassing the bosch regulator and soldering in a Ford motorsport one.
Thanks in advance!
-Aaron
