264 fuel pump 200 1979

hi from oz

my mum-in-law's 79 264 (b27e, bosch k-jetronic, no lamda) had a problem where there was insufficient pressure from the fuel pump to open the injectors. the fuel pump worked and pumped fuel. i replaced the pump and the accumulator (?) beside it with another unit, and now it works fine.

can anybody tell me what is wrong with the old unit - can it be fixed?
