What is failure mode for a coil? 200 1988

What could I expect my car to do if the coil is failing? Would it simply work or not work, or could it do quirky stuff? Car stumbles and will die at a stop but start right away again. (Fuel relay has been resoldered). Just replaced wires, cap, and rotor. Still doing it.
