So the front bushings on my 245 Turbo wagon are totally shot. The rubber upper strut mounts are cracked and the lower bushings have the consistency of chewing gum. Time for new ones. I’m weighing all my options and trying to decided just what is “worth it” in the suspension upgrade department. I like a sharp, fast handling car that holds a curve tighly with a subtle, predictable bit of oversteer. I’ve only had the car for a couple thousand miles now and don’t know what factory spec felt like, if it will satisfy me, or if it’s just time to dump some money into upgrades.
I’m considering a poly bushing set from KG Trimings, that Swedish place. About $310 shipped. Do they offer enough of an improvement over the stock bushings to be worth it? Is there a more affordable option? Will my car feel bad if I only do the front bushings in polyurethane?
Aftermarket lowering springs are unfortunately out of the question. I LOVE the look of a lowered brick, but I occasionally find myself wandering down logging roads and could honestly use some lifting springs if anyone made them.
IPD 25mm sway bars. My car has a lot of body roll in the twisty stuff, but the sway bar bushings are shot. Once again, how sufficient is the factory setup? Will the stiffer swaybars reduce the suspension articulation next time I find myself crawling down some god-forsaken jeep trail on the way to a mountain bike race? Also, if I get the swaybars from IPD should I get the 25/25 set or a 25/23 set?
On another note, I am VERY HAPPY with me. I’ve been dreding this stupid brake light switch. It was small, it was WAY under the dash, and the cruise equipment was in the way. Well, after getting the replacement switch it was much clearer just how the old one was going to come off, and after fiddling with it for half an hour… I got it. Put the new one in using the reverse fiddling order and brakes work great once again :-)
Thanks for all the input guys!
