The mystery of the sluggish spedometer has been solved. Don, you were right on the money. The culprit was a loose drive flange on the transmission.

Your wisdom and insight is once again appreciated.

p.s. my A/C 134a Yorky system was recharged and I am pleasantly surprised at how well it works.
