I have a 1983 240 Turbo that has just had a head job because of broken exhaust
studs. Now there is a loud consistant whistle at about 2800 rpm's.
When putting the intake side back together I also replaced all vacuum lines because they were very old and brittle. Now that everything is back together I noticed that my vacuum gauge inside the car was not working. I checked all vacuum lines and noticed one against the firewall accidently left unconnected. When I sucked on it the turbo gauge inside the car moved. I deduced that my vaccuum lines were not properly reconnected. There is a small circular valve of some type that has connections for two lines connected to another vacuum line going to the intake manifold. One side of this circular valve is not connected to anything and seems to be in the location against the firewall where the disconnected vacuum line that I sucked on is. This valve is about 1-1/2" in diameter and there are others throughout the cars vacuum line system (particularly under the intake manifold and under the dash on the drivers side)that are simular if not identicle.
When I connected the vacuum line to the valve the turbo gauge moved from a 12 o'clock position to a 9 o'clock position from the vacuum and the whistle did not go away.
I am praying that this consistant whistle is coming from a disconnected vaccuum line, not the dreaded noise of a turbo going bad.
If any one has any diagrams of the vaccuum lines it would be greatly appreciated.
