Swapping seats - how to swap the mechanisms? 200

Ok, so I finally ran out of patience - I tried to locate a 86+ seat to replace my completely falling apart driver's seat. Guess what, no luck. So, it's time for plan B - swapping the front seats and worrying about acquiring a new seat later.

Now, the question I haven't yet found the answer to - Is it possible to change the seat back adjustment knob to the other side, and HOW??? I just got a brand "new" center console, I'd hate to take it out just to make room for the knobs. I tried to pull out the knob, but it didn't seem to budge. Is that even supposed to come loose?
