Solvent to flush/clean transmission prior to changing fluid? 700 1987

I thought I read a post a while ago about some kind of solvent to add to the transmission fliud just prior to flushing and changing the fluid. I have tried to search for it but could not find it. If I recall correctly they suggested a cleaner that was much cheeper than the stuff off the shelf. Any info or comments about how well this works (should I not bother and just flush the fluid?)would be helpful. Thanks
