mystery grinding noise and stall 900 1993

I have a 1993 945 turbo. 100,000 miles. On my way to work, (this is my daily driver)the car made a terrible grinding noise - it sounded like it was coming from underneath or the back - then the car stalled. It started right back up and did not happen again for the rest of the trip to work - 23 miles. Does anyone have an idea. I leary to continue to drive it.
