Hello (again),

After two long years of trying to keep the car on the road (rather than driving it) I finally figured the cause for my 1991 940GLE 16 valve to idle so badly. If the A/C is on or the A/C clutch is engaged, the car idles fine around 900RPM (I think). However, as soon as the A/C is switched off or the A/C clutch is disengaged, the idling starts to cycle and each time the A/C clutch engages back, the RPM drops below the 500 mark before coming back to 850RPM or so; and at times the car dies off if the gear is in 'D' position.

Yesterday the car died twice both whilst coming to stop at traffic light and this morning it nearly died whilst joining the crawling traffic jam. In all these incidents it happened when the A/C clutch engaged whilst the car is being slowed down. Its not the AIC because I have it cleaned about two months ago but cleaning it again won't solve my problem. I bet my lemon on this (any takers?). It cannot be the servo or master pump for brakes because both have been changed last year (I nearly declared myself a bankrupt after that!).

I have read somewhere in car review that the above is one of the negative points about the 940 model. Is it true? Unfortunately the review did not suggest any solution; only highlight the possibility of engine stalling when the A/C clutch engages.By the way my A/C is a ECC not the MCC system.

I am thinking maybe the TPS is sticky and have it replaced with another from the junkyard.

Any ideas anyone?
