Has anyone else had this problem--A/C in 1996 Volvo 960 (149,000 miles) began fading out, then stopped working. Took it to local Pep Boys to have diagnosed and they said it was fully charged and needed to be looked at by the dealer.
A visit to the dealer cost me $85 to diagnose this bad news--Two cracked bellows in the a/c unit. Cost to repair the problem would be $1,500. They noted that two vacuum hoses were in poor shape and should be replaced which could be part of the problem. If they did just that portion it would cost $230, but there would be absolutely no guarantee how long that repair would last. I opted not to have any work done at that time. Funny thing was, when I left the dealership, the a/c began working again and has worked for the last 2 weeks.
Any thoughts on getting it repaired (other than at the dealer) or what might really be wrong?
