Rear deck spkr replacement 200

Before I start cutting into the back deck of my 83 244, will 6x9s fit back there without having to cut metal? Additionally, does anyone have any experience building boxes underneath the rear deck to get better sound? Is it a worthwhile process or is there no audible advantage?
