clutch cable problem 200 1983

I have a problem with my 83 Turbo with manual transmission. Tthe firewall where the my clutch cable goes through is cracked and has deformed inward and this is affecting the application of the cluthc . Does anyone know of a fix for this. It appears that I may be able to remove part of the firewall but it looks as though I will have to remove the steering column as well as heater hoses and wiring harnesses. Any sugestion would be appreciated
