Hello,
I recently purchased a 91 740T M46 with only 93k miles. The car has been very well cared for. New clutch 25K ago.
I have two troubles with the car:
First, the car will not go into any gear easily when cold. It does go eventually, and usually 3-2-1 and then I can go. It will not drop into first at a stop almost always either. I need to shift it into first while rolling to a stop. I tried moving the reverse safety gate over, which fixed up my 240, but this did not help at all. FAQ says clutch disengagement. Local guy says linkage adjustment? It shifts fine and the clutch engages at what seems to an appropriate height. Have not yet checked fluid level. Thinking about going to synthetic fluid at oil change. If I don't put it into first before reverse it grinds horribly.
Second, the car stumbles in regular driving revs especially if it is wet or rainy. Seems a bit more if pushing the turbo. Seems to drive alright if dry. The Air mass meter is new, as are both fuel pumps. Checked FI error codes 3-2-1 and 2-3-2 and cleared then drove on a hot dry day. Codes did not return.
All experiences / suggestions welcomed
Thanks.
