960 tranny temp sensor replacement 900 1996

Thanks to Lance760T regarding the cause of clunky cold transmission shifting from P to R. I bought a new temperature sensor, but was not sure if it would be easier to replace the sensor from under the hood or from the bottom. (They look equally difficult.) Should I expect any fluid spill from the fluid line adaptor? I would appreciate any suggestion from the board.
