Adjusting for drive shaft shudder 700

I've read the Faq and the Volvo bulletin on adjusting the carrier bearing in cases of driveshaft shudder/vibration, but was wondering if there's a consensus on which way to adjust, up or down? The Volvo bulletin suggests first adjusting up, then down should that not work. Just wondering if anyone's experience will give a direction to head. My 1987 GLE wagon has a mild shudder in the driveshaft when hauling a full load of people, and only on initial acceleration from a stop. It's a manual trans.
Thanks in advance
Richard
