Stranded in a heavy rain storm. 700 1991

Typical New Orleans tropical thunderstorm and street flooding, most cars drove through but my '91 700 stalled in a flooded portion of the road. Made a number of attempts to start, could hear the fuel pump - presume ignition system had shut down. Waited for about 10 minutes (hoping a tow truck or such would come by) and swung the starter again, ignition fired and I took off. Car stalled again going through the next flooded portion of the street. Same situation. Eventually got to my destination.

Most of the ignition/fuel components appear to be way above the water level, I was in about 6" to 8" of water. Would appreciate advice as to what components, if any, at the water level may have shut down and any corrections I could make before getting into a similar unpleasant situation. Usually one gets bumped out he way - just lucky this time.
