Used B230FT - Cost?? 700 1989

I need some help to determine if it's worth replacing the engine in my daughter's '89 740T. It's dead from terminal overheating (lost all coolant on the highway & she drove it till it died trying to get to the next exit). The car is in otherwise decent shape - 130K miles. The first estimate I got was $2900, which is pretty close to the value of the car. Can other victims share their experience on costs for purchase & install of a used B230FT. Any limits as to what model year engines are plug & play replacements? Any info on sources for used engines in SE MASS area would be appreciated. Thanks as always.
