Hi guys. Tell me if I’m crazy on this one. The 94 945T I just bought has a loose steering wheel cover (grip) from the 10-2 o’clock position (or the top of the steering wheel). I’m sure this is from sun/heat exposure. What I mean is that when you grip the top/top sides of the wheel, the outer covering twists around the inner horn wheel frame.
I think I can take my utility knife and cut through to the inner ring (on the backside of the wheel/the dash side). When I get to where the airbag/center attaches at the 10-2 o’clock position, I’ll cut outward – which should (‘should’) allow me to peel back the covering enough to where I can apply some kind of adhesive/epoxy. I think the repair could be done somewhat cleanly.
Any suggestions on adhesive? I’ve got some two-part epoxy in the garage I was going to use to restore a mustang rim-blow steering wheel, or I could use liquid nails…. I’m really open for suggestions. (oh yeah, I’ll definitely disconnect the bat. cables to disable the airbag).
Or – should I just live with it? Thanks!
