Hi, looking for "real" evaluation of 86 740 Turbo with 245K. Engine has worsening knock after a few blasts down the freeway. At least seems to be worsening. Initial call was by a "shop" to do valve adjustment and that shims were worn and this would cure rough idle. Yesterday, stopped at a another "shop", which I confidently got a better feeling from. I was told that it's definitely knock and best thing is to NOT drive out of town, watch for worsening knock noise, keep an eye on temp. gauge and put away $1200 for the day when the engine needs the overhaul.
This seems fair and I think that these guys are going to treat me right. But, I would rather get a 2nd opinion from someone who is not in business and is very fluent in Volvology. Thanks
