Mission:
Take a stock 1980 Bertone Coupe and pimp it out.
In this episode:
Put a playstation and a dvd player and screens in a 1980 Bertone Coupe for under $350.
DVD Player: Sony DVF-27 Open Item Buy at Circuit City (Missing Power Cable) $129
power adapter made from old cigarette power adapter from a cell phone and 2 big fat diodes to drop voltage down 1.2 volts (a non-zener diode takes .6 volts before it allows power to flow through so they can be used to drop voltage. No cost for power adapter since it was made from scrap parts.
Playstation and Screen: PSone + PSone 5" LCD screen combo $149 New
DC Adapter for PSone $39.99
(Probably could have made one but didn't feel like messing with it)
3 Female Phono Style Adapters (For Audio and Video Inputs) $1.99
Sheet Metal, Steel Square Key Stock, and some other metal crap from home depot $12
(I had to design a tray that slid out)
I opened up the PSone LCD screen and quickly wired up some cables and soldered them up to the phono style connectors.. now I can run any standard video output on the screen in addition to the PSX.
Ripped out the center clock and the passenger side vent.. had to cut out that crap cuz its all one piece.. had to cut part of the blower motor assembly on the passeger side as well. also had to cut the metal behind the clock and vents.. made a tray and rail system from the metal I got at the home depot. now the PSone and Screen can be completely consceled inside the dash. Dvd player fits perfectly in the glovebox.
Even had enough money left over to make a new grille made of 1/8" Steel.. looks dope as hell..
Right now eveything works but I need to work all the kinks out of the rail system (make it slide smooter... relocate some wires that it is snagging on every now and then.. and finish up modifying the plastic piece that once held the clock and the 2 vents (now only holds one vent). I am also going to cover the tray in some sort of material or paint it cuz its bare metal right now. Once I get the mod chip for the PSone I am going to bolt it to the tray and hardwire everything in (right now its powered from the cigarette lighter outlets. The picture quality of the PSone screen is actually really good. I was expecting it to be really crappy but it is better than the low end LCD screens that are sold at frys for $150 (every now and then they go on sale for $88).
Don't you wish you had the balls to take a hacksaw to your volvo like me?
I'm also taking bets on how long it will be before I get in a wreck... actually I've been doing a good job of not watching the screen.. however what is distracting is the hot girls that eye me one they see the screen in the car...
