Thick versus thin rear crank seal - which is better? 700 1988

I'm doing my rear main seal this weekend (no, I don't have an air conditioned garage - it's 95 degrees in Ohio) and have purchased two crankshaft rear seals - one is 10mm thick (red) and the other (brown) is 7mm. The 7mm cost more. Is this 7mm an upgraded version or does it really matter??

I did a rear seal last year and used the red one. Just curious.
