Tires 200 1984

On my 1984 240 I have some Michelin T+ on it. The sidewalls are all cracked and they only have 35000 miles on a 80000 mile tire. That means I should have 45000 miles left on them. I went to Sears where I bought them and they base the refund that they would give me on the amount of tread left on the tires. They said that they will give me a 17.00 credit for the left side and a 25.00 credit for the right side. I paid about 80.00 a tire for them. Is this estimate right or are they tring to bend me over. Thanks
