Owner's manual suggests engaging overdrive at all speeds over 35mph for best fuel economy. I know from experience that this doesn't quite work. I've read elsewhere that running the overdrive at speeds below 45mph is a bad idea because there isn't sufficient (?)fluid pressure and the cone clutch will slip and eventually burn itself up.
Me? I usually shift 'er in at around 50. Find that it lugs when I try to accelerate in OD under 50. Also find that I have to "downshift" into 4th when I'm doing less than 65 or so to maintain speed on grades. Is this normal?
(Car has a 3.31:1 rear, BTW).
