Sometime back I posted on looking at different models with turbos and whether I might fix my 92 960(trashed engine due to snapped timing belt). Several posted back to buy a 940 Turbo.
The results of my quest. The 85 244TI with 4sp OD didn't look bad for its age, but the engine was cutting out terrible, acted like some electrical problem. I wanted a car that ran not one I had to work on right away. The advertised 960 Turbo turned out to be just a 960 with a I6 24V. Told the owner to redo the ad. One 940T I found was way back in the lot and had a vine growing through the grille and radiator. It was obvious that the car hadn't been driven for sometime as the rotors were rusty. The car ran fine but a sunroof that opened but wouldn't close was a turn off as well as some other interior trim issues. I looked at another but there was too much minor body damage for price even though it had a new turbo and timing belt.
Now for the good part. On autotrader.com, I found a 91 940 SE Turbo 93K advertised and when I saw the car I knew this was the one. The color (Teal) was the same as my 960 as well as the leather interior and the body is identical. The previous owner had left all the records for the last 7 years where the car had been serviced. Car drove great and it had been very well cared for as the paint was almost flawless and the leather looked new. I bought the car yesterday and am looking forward to make changes to improve and handling and power. Thanks for the words of encouragement.
I guess I will part out the 960 now and try and recover some of loss I am taking on that car.
