'86 740 starts and quits 700

I was having a problem with the fuel pump relay not pulling in and could not find any reason for that problem. My best guess was that the ECU died. I got a new (used) ECU and plugged in in. The car started right up, but after running for about 10-15 seconds it shuts off and will not restart until it sits for a while. It cranks and I hear the fuel pumps running for a second after I quit cranking the engine so I assume the fuel is getting to the engine, so I now have a new problem. Any thoughts??
