mystery wires on the engine 200 1982

I have a black-covered set of wires (white, red, and ground) that plugs into the block a couple inches below and behind the block coolant drain, where the engine ends and the transmission starts. The wire goes from there to a connector that is bolted to the cam cover. The connector has a cap on it suggesting that it was put there at the factory. The engine is an '82 B23E with K-jet from a GLT. Is there something missing? Or is it part of a factory 'option' that my car did not get? Anyway, my curiosity has been piqued. Any help is good...
