Steering wheel replacement on 240 DL 200 1983

The yacht-appropriate steering wheel on the 83 244 needs replacing by one of the smaller wheels. Is this a complicated process? Mechanically inclined, but not much experience with steering columns/alignment etc. Also, no access to lift etc. Thanks.
