wiper motor works but wipers reston windshield 200 1988

Hello. I picked up a used wiper motor for my '88 245.The motor works fine but when i turn on the wipers,they stop on the windshield instead of resting in the horizontal position. How can i get them to stop in their normal position? Thanks
