Pretty scary stuff, I had was driving around like we all do and I got a flat! No problem, took apart my bass system in the trunk to dig out the spare, changed the flat (front passenger). To my suprise about 15 minutes later I noticed the car seemed to handle funnier than it usual would on a spare "donut". Mind you, I have had one bad experience with a Firestone spare donut tire about one month ago when the tread separated. So I got out and checked it out, the tread was almost completely separated. So this is two times in almost two months, two different spares (the new one from a junkyard off another 740). I know the tires were always properly inflated because the first one had a piece of paper taped to it with PSI checks and dates. I was not driving fast or wrecklessly either! So lesson learned, I went back to the junkyard found an old Taurus wagon and got that donut. I used to drive a grey 92 taurus wagon "The Whale" and had lots of bail outs by the spare. BTW the new one is a michelin spare. Not trying to sound like the anti Firestone guy, but come on! I could have been writing one of those stories about walking away from a crash --in a volvo-- I will be putting a picture of the damn tire on this post as soon as I go home and take it!
Thought I would share, so maybe everyone will check theirs out.!
