Inclusion of 'limp home mode' info. in owner's book makes me wonder...

Noticed that the owner's manual for 85 240 includes a few short sentences on the so-called 'limp home mode' in the back (troubleshooting section, if memory serves). Makes me wonder if Volvo knew that these air mass meters were flakey from day one. Anyone know if other cars with LH-Jetronic (volks? mercedes? porsche? bmw?) from this era have the same problem?

Looks like that may not be my problem this time around (suspect FPR-thanks, Don) but I've put at least a few in her and the last time that the amm took a dump the flap/thermostat in the airbox was completely functional. :-(
